Hi I'm Dan Higginson and welcome to the Idle House Society podcast. I'm joined today by Paul Bence. Good morning and we've also got the amazing Kate burden with us this morning.

00:00:14 Kate Burden

Thank you very much. Thanks for having me.

00:00:17 Dan Higginson

The three of us, we're gonna do an art heist, right? We're probably gonna get away with it. It's gonna be like an Ocean's 11 kind of deal. What are?

00:00:23 Dan Higginson

We seeing ohh God.

00:00:25 Paul Bence

That's a thing wherever you want test goes.

00:00:28 Dan Higginson

Yeah, we can go. Yeah. A youth. The notion of 11. It could be like, glamorous. Whatever.

00:00:32 Paul Bence

Yeah, it could be Tesco. It could be Sainsbury's.

00:00:35 Kate Burden

Ohh my gosh.

00:00:36 Kate Burden

I used to stay up, used to steal those magazines because they're so expensive. Yeah, I just used to steal them because they just like big.

00:00:44 Paul Bence

I I get it.

00:00:49 Paul Bence

Like £20 or something only.

00:00:51 Kate Burden

Yeah. And then.

00:00:52 Kate Burden

The only thing like Tesco and.

00:00:54 Paul Bence

That that's fine. Tesco makes loads of money they can afford. They can afford it.

00:00:56 Kate Burden

Yeah. Oh my God.

00:01:01 Dan Higginson

We are encouraging.

00:01:01

OK.

00:01:02 Dan Higginson

Everybody listening to go to Tesco right now and still vogue magazines.

00:01:10 Dan Higginson

It has.

00:01:12 Dan Higginson

So. So what are you talking about? That, that's that's probably right. So there's anything like a masterpiece. Personally, I think I'd want to take the moment, Lisa, because I just like.

00:01:17 Paul Bence

You can take.

00:01:20 Dan Higginson

The idea of.

00:01:20 Dan Higginson

Having it in the house.

00:01:22 Dan Higginson

Is it the real one? No. Yeah. I want the real one. I want people to walk in the hallway, like into my ship house.

00:01:27 Dan Higginson

And then just see like the actual moon the least and go. Is that the?

00:01:30 Dan Higginson

One that we're missing, like a few weeks ago.

00:01:32 Kate Burden

I I would I would still.

00:01:37 Kate Burden

I would still like this photograph that I've been obsessed with since the kid was not photographed. It's so brash as an art piece. It's a it's a fairy cup. You know, the Fairy Cup and saucer.

00:01:51 Kate Burden

The surrealist it's by an artist called Merit Oppenheim. I'm really, really should pronouncing names.

00:02:00 Kate Burden

But I think that's.

00:02:01 Kate Burden

Her name? Ohh. Thank you. But it's very sorry it blew my mind. I was just like.

00:02:01 Paul Bence

You do it because the.

00:02:11 Kate Burden

Not see it, it's.

00:02:12 Kate Burden

Like the none of the old.

00:02:15 Kate Burden

Masters and it's just taking something so simple.

00:02:18 Kate Burden

Like a couple.

00:02:19 Kate Burden

And then just tame it on its head, covering it into and.

00:02:24 Kate Burden

It just like.

00:02:25 Kate Burden

Blew my thinking apart. I steal that.

00:02:29 Dan Higginson

It's still there.

00:02:32 Dan Higginson

It's good and it's like a nice inspirational one as well, right? Because that that means something to you. How old were you? Sorry.

00:02:39 Kate Burden

I think it was. I mean, I know I was at school, so I'm assuming about 1415 or something. It's just a little black and white photograph of it. And I saw that and I read a little bit. I didn't know they are the same or anything, but like it was in an art book and I was just like.

00:02:55 Kate Burden

That's amazing. This. Yeah. I think it's called breakfast breakfasting, Sir. Or lunching, Sir, or something like that.

00:03:04 Dan Higginson

We'll find it. We'll put it in the.

00:03:05 Dan Higginson

Show notes.

00:03:06 Paul Bence

Tell us. Tell us. Tell. Tell us a little bit.

00:03:11 Paul Bence

No, no, no. You carry on. It's alright. Sorry, I didn't want to.

00:03:13 Speaker 4

Think it's.

00:03:14 Kate Burden

Fine, right. I think it's really well known and I think probably the I think she, like, hates it now, like or I think she's dead now. Actually. So yeah.

00:03:28 Kate Burden

Those pieces there, I think it's just like.

00:03:31 Kate Burden

That it got so famous.

00:03:34 Dan Higginson

I'm going to I'm going to. I'm searching for it right now.

00:03:37 Kate Burden

I wouldn't be bothered if I would start playing this at one piece of mark, yeah.

00:03:41 Paul Bence

And yeah, I think yeah, absolutely right. Would would it matter?

00:03:45 Dan Higginson

This is a.

00:03:46 Kate Burden

Like, come on.

00:03:48 Dan Higginson

Would you rather have?

00:03:50 Dan Higginson

One like well known all over the world. Peace. Or would you rather just have like a long and quiet career?

00:03:57 Kate Burden

Ohh God, what like?

00:04:00 Paul Bence

One hit wonder.

00:04:01 Dan Higginson

Like 1, not even a hit like something that goes in books. Do you know what I mean? Like it could be serious. It doesn't have to be. You don't have to be Rick Astley like it. It could be something.

00:04:13 Dan Higginson

Like religious, and really amazing.

00:04:15 Kate Burden

Gave goal. Now though in teams like right?

00:04:16 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah. They're, like, hanging out together, yeah.

00:04:19 Kate Burden

Well, like I think he's kind of like a nice guy. I wonder what he thinks about, like, I bet he didn't care. I bet he was just like one hit wonder. And then he's coming out with Dave gone. It's still cool, isn't he, now? So I don't know. Probably I wanna say a long and quiet career, but I think I'll probably like.

00:04:27 Paul Bence

But he lived off it.

00:04:27 Dan Higginson

Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:04:39 Dan Higginson

Yeah, depending on what mourning it is, like I I think I'm in.

00:04:45 Dan Higginson

The same boat.

00:04:47 Dan Higginson

Isn't it cool being textbooks?

00:04:48 Paul Bence

I don't know. No, I think I I just think maybe having a long, quiet but successful career that you could just you know you don't have to worry about the.

00:04:50 Dan Higginson

What do you reckon for?

00:04:58 Paul Bence

Stress of, you know you've asked anybody who's famously hated, right? Like they, I don't know many things. People who say they like.

00:05:04 Dan Higginson

Theme, but I don't know many artists that get recognised when they walk down the street, do you?

00:05:06 Kate Burden

Yeah. I just.

00:05:09 Dan Higginson

Know what?

00:05:09 Dan Higginson

I mean, yeah, like this is the level of pain we're talking about. Like we're we're not.

00:05:10 Paul Bence

Yeah, maybe you haven't been to ones you have been to ones. I'm going down the High Street like Ben. See how you're doing.

00:05:20 Dan Higginson

Yeah, that's the place that's cause of the.

00:05:22 Dan Higginson

Incident the other week.

00:05:24 Paul Bence

Mr this.

00:05:27

Your scooter.

00:05:30 Paul Bence

But this one.

00:05:31 Paul Bence

For another day, is it is it?

00:05:33 Dan Higginson

Is it one for today?

00:05:35 Dan Higginson

Maybe later. He's on my line.

00:05:39 Paul Bence

Kate tell tell us a little bit about you. Tell us, UM, what you do, why you do it and what what gets on your nerves.

00:05:49 Kate Burden

Ohh God loads of things get on their nerves. You probably could tell if you've had a look. I think I was like God, I think my work's getting like quite ranty or like quite like, you know or.

00:06:04 Kate Burden

So start where it all started again, because I went to university and when I was young and I think I think it's a little bit too young to go to, to do a fine art court or school was like 18. I think that everybody should kind of like do it and they're a little bit older and they know what's going on.

00:06:25 Kate Burden

So yeah, I did that and I didn't do anything for like ages and stuff. And it was during the the the second lockdown.

00:06:35 Kate Burden

So I've I've had.

00:06:36 Kate Burden

My third child in the first lockdown.

00:06:40 Kate Burden

And then I.

00:06:41 Kate Burden

Was speaking to my friend Vanessa outside.

00:06:44 Kate Burden

Waterstones and and.

00:06:46 Kate Burden

I was just like.

00:06:47 Kate Burden

I need something I need to, you know, everything's just, like, felt like the world's, like closing in, you know, and then.

00:06:54 Dan Higginson

Yeah, it was pretty rough.

00:06:57 Kate Burden

Yeah. I just.

00:06:58 Kate Burden

I just. I just need to do something for myself and and to, you know, just create something for me. And she was just like, why don't you? It's her fault, she said, why didn't you?

00:07:14 Kate Burden

Why don't you like use Instagram as a way of just like doing the thing and getting it out there, you know? And so I do it and then now I can't stop doing it. And now it's got like to be a thing. It's a good thing. But yeah, so.

00:07:30

So what?

00:07:32 Dan Higginson

It was that thing you were doing before and just not showing you on Instagram like when did this start?

00:07:37 Kate Burden

Now it was so. It was like in 2021. That was like the second lock down like in in this in this being summer of 21. And so I was just started to, yeah, making stuff then those and those cultures and yeah, just.

00:07:57 Speaker 4

Were you were you were.

00:07:58 Paul Bence

You making the actual sculptures?

00:08:00 Paul Bence

Themselves in terms of the OR were you finding bits? I was I I was conscious. When I look at them like this. Like a baby with.

00:08:08 Paul Bence

They're amazing, but I'm curious. When you when you finding the bits and then sticking them together or were you actually using 3D printing? Or was it a combination of both or I'm sorry.

00:08:18 Kate Burden

So now it's. Yeah. Well, it all started. So my partners, mum and Dad had, like, cleared loads of stuff. So. And they laughed and they said, yeah, there's this big bag of your old toys and they're just like, I don't want to deal with them. You know, they're all broken. They're like screws.

00:08:40 Kate Burden

In many horrible things. And so yeah.

00:08:43 Dan Higginson

Though it's not like the lost as well.

00:08:45 Dan Higginson

Yeah, that's what is that. It's like there's musty. It's like the insulation or something up there. But every loft smells the.

00:08:51 Kate Burden

Same kind of like sticky sticky these tones and then you know, like he man figures restless legs and like stuff like that. And I don't know. Just like you get to a certain age.

00:09:05 Kate Burden

Where your mum and dad go.

00:09:09 Kate Burden

He take it now. Now you've, like, moved out and you've got kids in your own and stuff.

00:09:14 Kate Burden

Like take it.

00:09:15 Kate Burden

So I've got some stuff. It's stuff that I wouldn't give my kids to play with because.

00:09:20 Kate Burden

They're just like kind.

00:09:21 Kate Burden

Of gross and you're just like.

00:09:23 Kate Burden

Well, they're not into that anyway.

00:09:25 Dan Higginson

Just a bit, just a bit knife.

00:09:26 Kate Burden

Right. Yeah. So, like big bag of stuff. So I had this idea of like.

00:09:32 Kate Burden

Initially like to totem poles, you know, like the stuff early childhood and like how it like.

00:09:40 Kate Burden

Toys are really precious and they mean things.

00:09:42 Kate Burden

To you and like.

00:09:43 Kate Burden

Stuff like that. So. Well, this is what was on my mind and I just basically took this bag of toys that.

00:09:50 Kate Burden

My partner had and.

00:09:54 Kate Burden

Yeah, just like chopped him.

00:09:56 Kate Burden

But from destroyed his childhood, basically, just like talk to him.

00:10:00 Kate Burden

A lot and.

00:10:03 Kate Burden

Just to see what would come off like that, I think it's just the materials that were around me at the time because I've locked down. That's the thing. That's all I had in the house. You know, I didn't have any books at this stage. Any like children's book, old children's books and stuff like that. So the coloured stuff later.

00:10:22 Kate Burden

But yeah, it was just it's.

00:10:24 Paul Bence

It's amazing. I think. I think when you're restricted, maybe it it it forces you to be even more creative, right? And I think there's something beautiful about that. I think there's something really lovely.

00:10:32 Kate Burden

Yeah, I think it's OK, but it's so small. Everything feels so small.

00:10:38 Kate Burden

And like confined restricted user like limited. And then when you push to kind of like right, I'm just gonna do something.

00:10:46 Kate Burden

Yeah, you do. You carry. You can be right.

00:10:49 Kate Burden

You know, it's like a challenge, you know.

00:10:54 Paul Bence

A little puzzle.

00:10:55 Speaker 4

Yeah, I kind.

00:10:55 Speaker 4

Of like that though.

00:10:57 Paul Bence

Yeah, it's really, I like it. I really like it.

00:10:59 Paul Bence

It's really cool.

00:11:00 Paul Bence

What really cool.

00:11:00 Dan Higginson

Or did you ever half think of it all? Cause like these are his toys. Did he think you were a bit crazy?

00:11:04 Dan Higginson

To start with, like what? Yeah. What was? Well, yeah.

00:11:08 Kate Burden

I think I think he hates. I think he hates me just like.

00:11:14 Paul Bence

You believe my childhood?

00:11:19 Kate Burden

Yeah, I think his brother stole most of the way. The good stuff, like old Star Wars stores. So I think that he was left with just like Legs, Hulk Hogan or and stuff like that. So he's quite including encouraging, actually cause like he.

00:11:38 Kate Burden

He's an art teacher and he makes.

00:11:41 Kate Burden

He makes it as well. So there's like, but he's still collage and stuff. So, but I wanted to do something that wasn't collage because he did it. So you know, because I.

00:11:52 Kate Burden

Was like God.

00:11:53 Kate Burden

I'm not like competing with that. Yeah, but I think like.

00:12:00 Kate Burden

I came out of this somewhere.

00:12:02 Kate Burden

In it.

00:12:04 Paul Bence

We were just having you. Can you hear you? Are you having audio problems then done or not?

00:12:08 Dan Higginson

A little bit, yeah.

00:12:12 Paul Bence

That those videos, though, from that guy you maybe watch the ******* boat guy. The the pesos face. So it's the it's the most amazing thing. It's just so good. I've been telling everybody. Yeah, it's it's so good. I have. I've been telling everybody I meet.

00:12:21

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:12:24 Dan Higginson

I think he's gonna be my child this week.

00:12:30 Dan Higginson

I've been telling you.

00:12:31 Dan Higginson

About this guy since he did his first.

00:12:32 Dan Higginson

One right.

00:12:33 Paul Bence

Not so good. It's so I I can't believe I missed it. I got it. You know, sometimes.

00:12:39 Paul Bence

Decided. Yeah. And it's just so good. You're like.

00:12:44 Paul Bence

Danielle, you're going to be the Internet God. Obviously. Like is the best thing.

00:12:49 Dan Higginson

Because I I found him and he had like 100 followers or something on them.

00:12:54 Dan Higginson

On YouTube it probably wasn't hundred. It was probably a couple of 1000, but it it was low right? It was really low and he had one video. It wasn't even a video, it was a trailer for a video that he was gonna release. And I was like immediately it's. This is the.

00:13:07 Dan Higginson

Best thing I've.

00:13:07 Dan Higginson

Seen on the Internet ever so.

00:13:09 Paul Bence

Good. So good.

00:13:11 Paul Bence

Is so well thought through and everything is just like.

00:13:15 Dan Higginson

It's so layered and it's so random.

00:13:17 Paul Bence

Yeah. So can this be like?

00:13:19 Paul Bence

Hair on his.

00:13:20 Dan Higginson

Arms. He's sort of funny.

00:13:23 Paul Bence

It's so funny. Yeah. It's so funny. It's like.

00:13:29 Dan Higginson

He used to record them both.

00:13:30 Paul Bence

But it is it, it's just it's just like I I've seen a lot of stuff on the Internet and it's up there like I.

00:13:37 Dan Higginson

Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's peak and.

00:13:40 Paul Bence

Peak peak Internet. Yeah, yeah.

00:13:43 Paul Bence

Well, like, how do you even find that? I mean, how did you even come across it? What were you, what were you?

00:13:48 Paul Bence

Searching man with here.

00:13:48 Dan Higginson

My my YouTube.

00:13:50 Dan Higginson

Algorithm is dark. It's it's my Sissy mother is like pretty funked up.

00:13:56 Paul Bence

I I know what it is now you have to hear transplant. That's what did you.

00:14:04 Dan Higginson

See the first have you watched?

00:14:05 Paul Bence

All of them? No. I've only watched one.

00:14:07 Dan Higginson

But OK, OK. So the first one is absolutely brilliant. He does a diorama of the time Mel Gibson was arrest.

00:14:15 Dan Higginson

Did for drunk driving and he makes the whole diorama and he goes to extraordinary lengths to try and make it accurate.

00:14:17 Paul Bence

OK, OK.

00:14:24 Dan Higginson

It's so ******* good.

00:14:24 Paul Bence

My it's it's mind-blowing. It's honestly cause the the skill in the art as well right in the create in the world.

00:14:27 Dan Higginson

So good.

00:14:32 Dan Higginson

Dude from mega talented.

00:14:33 Paul Bence

Yeah, like, it's mind-blowing. He's mind.

00:14:36 Dan Higginson

Blowing this alright, this is literally gonna be my shout out this week and I think I might just leave this whole bit of conversation in. So it's Bobby fingers. Bobby Fingers on on YouTube. It's just the best thing ever.

00:14:45 Paul Bence

Everybody, if you know.

00:14:47 Paul Bence

It like I it's one of those things that will go down in Internet folklore. It is it is, it is.

00:14:52 Dan Higginson

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:14:53 Dan Higginson

Yeah. I I, I really hope he makes a hundred 100 videos.

00:14:58 Paul Bence

I I I I want to meet him. We.

00:14:59 Paul Bence

Want to get him on?

00:15:00 Paul Bence

The podcast, that's what we're going to do.

00:15:00 Dan Higginson

Do you think do you think?

00:15:01 Dan Higginson

It though.

00:15:02 Paul Bence

Why not? Why not? Why not eat? Maybe we'll get.

00:15:03 Dan Higginson

I don't know. We're a bit better, a bit beneath him, aren't we?

00:15:09 Dan Higginson

Are you are you in? You're in, OK?

00:15:11 Kate Burden

He took out, I mean.

00:15:11 Dan Higginson

How's it going?

00:15:12 Paul Bence

Are we talking about this? Do you know?

00:15:14 Paul Bence

Where Bobby fingers is.

00:15:16 Kate Burden

Bobby Fingers now I don't.

00:15:18 Dan Higginson

OK, so there's this.

00:15:20 Dan Higginson

There's this Irish guy on YouTube.

00:15:23 Dan Higginson

And he.

00:15:24 Dan Higginson

These the literally the funniest thing on the Internet.

00:15:27 Paul Bence

It's really, really.

00:15:28 Dan Higginson

Artistic and creative. But he is also absolutely hilarious, and what he does is he makes physical models of things like dioramas, little sculptures and stuff. So I think the first video it might have been the second one. It's not important. I think the first video.

00:15:44 Dan Higginson

It was like it was the time. It was a diorama of the time that Mel Gibson was arrested for drunk driving and he just goes.

00:15:51 Dan Higginson

To ridiculous levels to make sure everything is perfect.

00:15:55 Dan Higginson

And the whole way through, he's cracking wise and he's super talented. The little models that he makes are just they're so accurate. I think he works in, in the cinema or something. Maybe I I just get.

00:16:08 Dan Higginson

The impression?

00:16:09 Kate Burden

Speaking out, it sounds good. I love to say that, yeah.

00:16:11 Paul Bence

Yeah, it's mind blowing. It's mine. It's we did one of like Jeff Beast. He made a boat out of Jeff Bezos's head. And you know, that's like, random.

00:16:20 Dan Higginson

Right for his.

00:16:23 Kate Burden

Like, is he making?

00:16:23 Paul Bence

No, no, no.

00:16:24 Dan Higginson

No, he made a.

00:16:25 Dan Higginson

Full size Jeff Bezos face like it was about 9 foot long and it's ridiculously accurate. And he turned into a boat.

00:16:36 Speaker 4

You are OK.

00:16:37 Paul Bence

I've never seen it that like it's.

00:16:38 Dan Higginson

You are living in the dark, both of you.

00:16:41 Paul Bence

It's mind blowing, Kate. Honestly.

00:16:44 Paul Bence

Like as as as soon as you finish talking to us, I'll spend the next half an hour watching. It's just mind blowing. How, how skillful.

00:16:52 Paul Bence

Yes, and how he how, how he how he how he made this video. I just like it just takes you so.

00:16:53 Kate Burden

Good day.

00:16:58 Paul Bence

Layer just like.

00:16:59 Dan Higginson

Yeah, it's really, really layered. I'm not gonna ruin any of it for you, but there are.

00:16:59 Paul Bence

I can't even.

00:17:02 Paul Bence

No, no.

00:17:03 Dan Higginson

Moments where he where he's not making the boat anymore and you're still watching him. I bought half my watching now and then it'll come back and finish the boat. It's it's. It's brilliant. I think it's gonna be right up your street, actually, because it's got that there's like, this touch of darkness to everything he does. Do you know what I mean? There's there's, like, an underlying.

00:17:22 Speaker 4

What are you trying to say about Kate?

00:17:23 Dan Higginson

Dan, listen, I I I was. I was.

00:17:24 Kate Burden

I know.

00:17:27 Dan Higginson

The kid at 14, like 15. I used to paint my nails black. I used to listen to like Marilyn Manson, but I I I am that kid. Yeah, mate, I honestly, it's super embarrassing, right? But that was me. I was that little goth kid.

00:17:40 Dan Higginson

Under God.

00:17:40 Kate Burden

To the end.

00:17:42 Paul Bence

But you look beautiful down as the goth.

00:17:44 Dan Higginson

Kids. Right? I I'm. I mean, I'm sat here wearing all black right now.

00:17:47 Dan Higginson

I I I just.

00:17:49

I've got an.

00:17:49 Dan Higginson

Evil dead T-shirt on as we.

00:17:51 Dan Higginson

Big like a literal evil dead T-shirt.

00:17:53 Paul Bence

Review. Yeah, he's gonna. He's.

00:17:55 Paul Bence

Gonna take his clothes off. OK. It's not one of.

00:17:56 Dan Higginson

Yeah, I'm. I'm stripping. Yeah, you guys can't see it, but I am stripping back here.

00:17:57 Paul Bence

The podcasts I promise. Time. Stop, stop.

00:18:06 Dan Higginson

This has gone so far off of the.

00:18:08 Dan Higginson

Rails, but that's that's, that's just.

00:18:09 Kate Burden

Yes, that's good. I'm. I'm gonna put that on my list. I've got a list that people recommend me, and I'm gonna get through it, you know, cause it's just, it's massive out there, you know, on the TV and in the world and on the Internet. And I'm just like.

00:18:23 Dan Higginson

There's too much. There's there's too much you you need it curated. If only somebody was doing a mailing list where every month or so they pulled together like the 10 best things.

00:18:36 Kate Burden

The algorithms don't get it right away. So yeah, Bobby fingers that'll be on the.

00:18:38 Paul Bence

They don't. No, no.

00:18:43 Kate Burden

Top of my list.

00:18:44 Paul Bence

I I I maybe even have we, we've just started and we, Daniel, a newsletter where we.

00:18:49 Paul Bence

Great things like Bobby fingers. Well, I think he's going to go on the 2nd the 2nd loop we maybe we can force him.

00:18:55 Paul Bence

On the first one.

00:18:55 Dan Higginson

We we get on the first one.

00:18:56 Paul Bence

Though because it's because it's so good.

00:18:59 Paul Bence

Well, we're good, but that's exactly before you came back on. We were talking about maybe. Let's see if we can get Bobby fingers.

00:19:05 Paul Bence

On so. But so Bobby.

00:19:07 Kate Burden

Put him on.

00:19:09 Kate Burden

I didn't walk.

00:19:16 Kate Burden

You go back.

00:19:18 Paul Bence

Kate, we, we, we we had an engineer problem, but we're back. Let's get. Let's get back to talking about cause. That's where we are today. So yeah. So you you did the sculptures. Go on. Sorry. Sorry. You go on you.

00:19:23 Speaker 4

OK.

00:19:28 Kate Burden

Well, I was just going to say.

00:19:32 Kate Burden

So I've listened to you start some of your podcasts and stuff, and I noticed cause I I've never heard of YouTube before. So give me someone needs to tell me what to listen to.

00:19:43 Dan Higginson

That's fine. Nobody's ever heard of us before.

00:19:45 Dan Higginson

Kate, we're we in the dark.

00:19:45 Paul Bence

You know where we are. We love existence.

00:19:48 Kate Burden

So it's good. It's really good though, because I I saw a few photographers, I see him this way and Martin Salter and I saw Steven Wesley doing this and it popped up on his Instagram feed. And I was like, ohh, check these guys out. And then when you asked me to come out, I was like, I don't think they think that I'm some sort of like.

00:20:10 Dan Higginson

You are a professional, Kate.

00:20:12 Paul Bence

Kate and I. Yeah. Let's let's celebrate that. You make a ******* ******* amazing work like it's.

00:20:17 Speaker 4

Great, you should be.

00:20:18 Speaker 4

Really proud of.

00:20:19 Paul Bence

It you know.

00:20:19 Kate Burden

Well, thank you. But I was, I I was those guys and I'm just.

00:20:24 Kate Burden

You know I yeah, I was just like and.

00:20:27 Kate Burden

Then I was.

00:20:28 Kate Burden

Just like, oh, God, listen to the podcast. I listen to it and it's brilliant. You know, the question that you're asking you've.

00:20:34 Kate Burden

Got like a real rapport with people and it.

00:20:38 Kate Burden

Really works like it. It's really like down to Earth and I just think that more people.

00:20:44 Kate Burden

To be listening to you guys.

00:20:45 Kate Burden

You know completely, absolutely a little bit.

00:20:48 Paul Bence

Some, sometimes. Sometimes Daniel hasn't really got a good sense of him. Right, exactly. I'm glad you said that. Saved in about nine months. He looks like a really weird ginger face. Christmas.

00:20:51 Dan Higginson

Now I'm funny looking. That's that's where I excel in comedy.

00:21:01 Dan Higginson

I shaved Father thing this morning.

00:21:04 Paul Bence

Have you got ginger in your beard? I've just noticed this for the first.

00:21:07 Dan Higginson

Time. How have you only just noticed when my.

00:21:09 Dan Higginson

Beard is red, right? Like entirely red pull.

00:21:13 Paul Bence

Any red down below as well?

00:21:15 Kate Burden

If I was a man, I think I have a ginger beard because I sometimes see like ginger hair in my sideburns and I'm like, I reckon if I was a.

00:21:23 Kate Burden

Man, I'd be.

00:21:23 Dan Higginson

Yeah, I think you would. That's that's that's pretty much what's going on with.

00:21:29 Dan Higginson

Me like.

00:21:31 Dan Higginson

Brown and then.

00:21:31 Paul Bence

Give it, give it, give it another.

00:21:32 Paul Bence

20 years Kate.

00:21:37 Speaker 4

Not probably.

00:21:42 Dan Higginson

Thank you. That's very kind of you, Kate. We, I don't know if it's deliberate. I think it's like the only lane we can live in is just having a chat with people, because I find it more interesting finding out what makes somebody tick. I feel like I learn more about somebody's work than if they just kind of.

00:22:01 Dan Higginson

Yeah. Spout what they've written in their.

00:22:03 Dan Higginson

Bio do you know what I mean? Like.

00:22:04 Kate Burden

Yeah. I I I do. Yeah, I get that as well. And also I think it's also the artist to think like actually you know why?

00:22:14 Kate Burden

Why am I doing this?

00:22:17 Kate Burden

What you know, like put it into their own mind. Well, to me anyway, it feels like it's it's good every so often to kind of like, think.

00:22:26 Kate Burden

How do you? So what's the point of this? Yeah, it's good that you're out there asking these questions because it's like.

00:22:35 Dan Higginson

Do you reckon?

00:22:35 Dan Higginson

What do you reckon there is an answer to?

00:22:37 Dan Higginson

That question, right?

00:22:38 Paul Bence

Yeah. What's the point for you? I was going to ask, what's the point when, when you ask yourself that question, what? What's the answer?

00:22:43 Paul Bence

You come back with.

00:22:45 Kate Burden

What is the point?

00:22:46 Kate Burden

But I think sometimes I just think what is, what is what? I think it's just this.

00:22:55 Kate Burden

Well, is that making sense of the things it's like? It's the things really. I think it's like, you know.

00:23:04 Kate Burden

Just kind of like I've got something to say. You know, I've got something to say about that. I don't exactly know what it is. What I'm trying to say, but it's gonna come out anyway. And just about there's no great massive things in the work. It's just like the mundane things and just existing.

00:23:26 Kate Burden

In this time and.

00:23:29 Kate Burden

I don't know conversations and you know, it's all like kind of and it.

00:23:33 Dan Higginson

Is there always something?

00:23:33 Kate Burden

Just felt like.

00:23:34 Dan Higginson

That sparks it for you. Or is it? Or is it ever just like, sorry, I'm going to speak about my own work for a second. Right? So other people? Yeah, I know. I know it's the worst, but it's it's a it's a way into asking your questions. I'm very sorry.

00:23:42 Paul Bence

He always does this. He always does this.

00:23:50 Dan Higginson

I know that when I do stuff and when I talk to other people that work in a similar way to me, everybody else has this like deep, meaningful thing going on underneath where they're like really trying to answer a question about themselves. And with me, it just doesn't feel that deep. I'm just making work that I like about people that where I enjoy their company.

00:24:08 Dan Higginson

Like is do you do you always have. Uh, a little spark at the beginning of your work or or is? Or are you? Or are you ever just trying to do something that you think looks cool and then wondering what it means afterwards?

00:24:23 Kate Burden

Yeah, you know.

00:24:24 Kate Burden

I think there's like.

00:24:25 Kate Burden

There's both to it, and I think that.

00:24:29 Kate Burden

Maybe you and like sometimes I do. I think that there is something going on that you don't know about. Like yourself, you're not consciously aware of it, that if you really had someone dig down in the depths of your mind and like God.

00:24:48 Kate Burden

It's this alright? You know, I think that.

00:24:53 Kate Burden

It is.

00:24:55 Kate Burden

In your and it's your, it's your your way of looking at the world and everything about you that comes out of you, even though you don't actually know it at the time there. I think that and then.

00:25:10 Kate Burden

Aesthetically, like the things that I change are like.

00:25:14 Kate Burden

They do look cool because toys are cool. Aren't they really old toys are well, I think they are, but I think maybe that era is because it's like my childhood or like and and it looks a bit better than a bit old, but that's the aesthetic I go for. Maybe it is just that on a basic level.

00:25:36 Kate Burden

But maybe there's more.

00:25:37 Kate Burden

To it than that that I don't. I'm not really.

00:25:41

OK.

00:25:43 Paul Bence

Really difficult. It's really difficult to articulate it. I think it is like even you some like you know it's it's very intuitive, isn't it?

00:25:50 Paul Bence

The way you work, right, you're.

00:25:51 Paul Bence

I imagine you've got a load of maybe old books or something that you see in a in a book. I really like that I'm gonna cut that out and then you have something you put with it and you're like, well, maybe something else and then you start. And it's like, oh, this is cool. I'm.

00:26:02 Paul Bence

Gonna do a few.

00:26:03 Paul Bence

More of these and it kind of it's like this natural thing that happens when you're making that you're not.

00:26:10 Paul Bence

Aware of you're completely.

00:26:11 Paul Bence

You don't know why you're making it, but it feels right. There's something your little buzz inside, like a little. It's like a little moan of joy. Maybe doing a little.

00:26:19 Paul Bence

Fart or something? Nobody hears it.

00:26:21 Paul Bence

It's, but it is alright. A secret one.

00:26:25 Kate Burden

It's everything about that. It's like.

00:26:28 Kate Burden

It's like the collecting of things in my ohh famous really good book or our families and then you gather in all the time.

00:26:37 Kate Burden

And you keep him in there like, and then you get them all out. And it's just like sifting through. And it takes ages to do it. And but you're not really thinking about much more than finding the thing you don't even know what it is.

00:26:49 Kate Burden

Sometimes what? You're.

00:26:50 Kate Burden

Looking for, I think it's.

00:26:52 Kate Burden

That's the nature of like.

00:26:54 Kate Burden

The materials that I've got, you know, the big bag toys and the loads of old books now, so you kind of just waiting for it to kind of like come to you a little bit rather than I've got to make this piece about this.

00:27:11 Kate Burden

But then things.

00:27:12 Kate Burden

It does work through the way around. You do go and go looking for pieces. Well, I.

00:27:18 Kate Burden

Do I kind of gone back?

00:27:19 Kate Burden

To the little toy sculptures again so.

00:27:22 Paul Bence

But there's, you know, you said about totem poles when you started, so there's a there's a Canadian.

00:27:27 Paul Bence

Think Brother Brother team called Fail with an E at the end and they made totem poles of where they grew up in. Think the Canadian they might be American, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think you should make a big totem pole with all the toys you know hugely.

00:27:42 Kate Burden

Yeah. Or the rejects.

00:27:44 Paul Bence

Yeah, this, this, this man sitting outside your house.

00:27:47 Kate Burden

Actually the name is a little bit around here.

00:27:54 Paul Bence

I was also going to ask you said your husband's math teacher, right? All his partners. Ah, and that teacher.

00:27:59 Paul Bence

And he called Carla.

00:28:00 Paul Bence

Are you competitive like is like are you competitive, does he do you do you, do you have a little bit of friendly competition?

00:28:05 Kate Burden

There's there's no.

00:28:07 Kate Burden

It's it's very it's different to me. It's very different to me, but he doesn't like it. It's like he's like in their working and I'm like, you know.

00:28:26 Kate Burden

Even it's just a bit like and then.

00:28:29 Kate Burden

And but I kind of like that, you know it like a studio sounds like a, you know, like a, you know, whatever. And you're working with somebody you go like ohh like a family. So I don't like working on my own.

00:28:44 Dan Higginson

You want to collaborate.

00:28:44 Kate Burden

And I think that.

00:28:45 Kate Burden

Yeah. And I think that that's what I want to do like.

00:28:49 Kate Burden

And and that's where.

00:28:52 Kate Burden

Like, that's why Instagram is so good for the opportunities. You know, collaborating with people and like, that's what interests me more than, say, just.

00:29:04 Kate Burden

I want to work with people. You know, I want to work with different people and see what that brings and see what brings out of myself and my art as well. I think that it's good for that and it makes the world so.

00:29:16 Kate Burden

Small and like.

00:29:17 Kate Burden

I don't know. I just. I don't really get out there. Don't really get out.

00:29:21 Paul Bence

Really, there's alright. You're.

00:29:22 Paul Bence

Right. Isn't you got three kids, right? You got.

00:29:24 Paul Bence

Three kids, so.

00:29:25 Paul Bence

How how do you how do you manage your time? That's the other thing I was going to ask. That must be quite difficult as well. Right. Like three, I've got I've.

00:29:30

Yeah, yeah.

00:29:31 Paul Bence

Got two in this house, so three must be wow.

00:29:34 Kate Burden

About I think the.

00:29:36 Kate Burden

Third one is just like push me over the edge I.

00:29:38 Kate Burden

Was just like.

00:29:40 Kate Burden

Yeah, but they're really young for like 7-5 and three. And so yeah, it's kind of like sitting in around that. So it's like when they've gone to bed and it's not every night. But it's when I can do it. And then when I'm looking for stuff, it's.

00:29:44 Paul Bence

OK.

00:29:59 Kate Burden

Like cool kids.

00:30:00 Kate Burden

You go to this.

00:30:01 Kate Burden

Charity shop and they're like or like.

00:30:04 Kate Burden

You know like.

00:30:07 Kate Burden

I'll let him play with it for a.

00:30:08 Kate Burden

Bit and then I'll like take it away.

00:30:12 Paul Bence

Stick it up whenever.

00:30:14 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:30:16 Kate Burden

He said he came downstairs one morning and I didn't want him.

00:30:21 Kate Burden

Hey I know where those hands are from. That's my dog. But it was already broken. I was like, I'm sorry. I'll get you on the phone, you know?

00:30:33 Kate Burden

Yeah, I love it.

00:30:35 Dan Higginson

Do you think you would join?

00:30:37 Dan Higginson

Up with some studio space to site some shared.

00:30:41 Dan Higginson

Artist, you just I think that'd be, I think that'd be really cool.

00:30:44 Kate Burden

I think I'd like to do some because everything's small. You know everything at the house is small, there's no space million kids and it's like.

00:30:55 Paul Bence

I like your chair.

00:30:56 Kate Burden

All right.

00:30:58 Paul Bence

Excuse me.

00:31:02 Dan Higginson

That's a good skin. Find that one.

00:31:05 Kate Burden

And this is.

00:31:09 Kate Burden

Paul B. And it's. Yeah. So I think I'd like to do.

00:31:11 Dan Higginson

Back there.

00:31:15 Kate Burden

Some large scale kind of.

00:31:17 Kate Burden

Things there's something big breakout, you know.

00:31:20 Dan Higginson

Like a totem pole.

00:31:22 Dan Higginson

A 10 foot home.

00:31:23 Paul Bence

Bolt made with plastic toys, yes.

00:31:27 Kate Burden

Yeah. And then if you.

00:31:28 Kate Burden

Play around the scale, it might. I don't know. I don't know it. Like lose. It's me, you know? But I'd love to. Just, like, break out, get bigger, you know.

00:31:37 Kate Burden

Collaborations with people.

00:31:39 Kate Burden

Like you get really weird things come up on Instagram and weird propositions and stuff which.

00:31:45 Kate Burden

Is a bit weird.

00:31:46 Kate Burden

And you also get like good.

00:31:49 Kate Burden

Things as well, so yeah.

00:31:54 Paul Bence

Drop down.

00:31:57 Dan Higginson

Why are you picking on me today, Paul? What?

00:31:58 Dan Higginson

Have I done right?

00:32:02 Paul Bence

Days done. Just one of those days.

00:32:05 Dan Higginson

Now, when was it yesterday? Monday, Monday and and and now he's picking on me because he's all grumpy and tooth achy.

00:32:13 Paul Bence

It was. It was awful. It's possibly the worst thing in my life. I hate the dentist. I think dentists are sent to Earth to destroy us.

00:32:23 Kate Burden

Now we root canal and it and twice.

00:32:26 Paul Bence

Yeah, I didn't think twice this was the second time.

00:32:29 Paul Bence

It's like.

00:32:30 Kate Burden

Pay private at pay private prices and then.

00:32:31 Paul Bence

Yeah, me too. Me too. Me too.

00:32:34 Paul Bence

Do you know when they make you do an X-ray? You have to chew on this piece of plastic in your mouth just cutting into.

00:32:39 Speaker 4

Your gum you like. Take the full thing out.

00:32:43 Dan Higginson

You're right, they are. They're sent here from hell.

00:32:45 Paul Bence

And then they're leaving the room. They're safe, like you're going to be filled with radiation. But we're just going to go outside while we do it.

00:32:53 Kate Burden

I'm gonna die around you.

00:33:03 Dan Higginson

I can't tell you.

00:33:04 Dan Higginson

How terrified I am of going to the.

00:33:06 Dan Higginson

Dentist but I.

00:33:07 Paul Bence

Me too. It's missed my worst thing on Earth. Like I'd rather have toothache than go to the dentist. I thought they hate it. It's like it's gonna be like the really hurting for me to go. OK, I'm gonna go now. Yeah. OK.

00:33:18 Dan Higginson

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You you're folding, right? Yeah. OK. OK, OK. OK. OK.

00:33:22 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK. You forced me to laugh.

00:33:26 Dan Higginson

This this conversation has taken a few left hands. I'm just gonna try and drag us back. Tell us you. So you went? You studied fine art.

00:33:34 Dan Higginson

Right at university.

00:33:37 Dan Higginson

What was your work like then?

00:33:38 Dan Higginson

Was it anything like it is now?

00:33:41 Kate Burden

No, it is I.

00:33:43 Kate Burden

Did like video? Well, I did this create studies calls like HD thing and then I got on to the second year of a degree final and that was like time based media. It was called. So it was like short films and zombie car. That was the thing.

00:34:04 Dan Higginson

Sorry, was it Funny Car?

00:34:05 Kate Burden

Johnny Carr? Yeah, that's.

00:34:08 Paul Bence

Yeah. What is that?

00:34:08 Kate Burden

Sound just sound.

00:34:13 Dan Higginson

OK, I I still feel I am I being I don't.

00:34:14 Paul Bence

In the.

00:34:16 Dan Higginson

Know maybe I'm being arrested.

00:34:17 Dan Higginson

Here I'm not really cultured.

00:34:19 Paul Bence

Is that like?

00:34:20 Paul Bence

Doctor Who sounds like you would be making your own sounds and then.

00:34:23 Kate Burden

Like, you know, just yeah, why don't they just call it out? It's just all that, you know. But that was the thing. I don't even know if it exists anymore of that course, but.

00:34:26 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah you can.

00:34:36 Kate Burden

Yeah, it. Yeah, a lot different, I think that.

00:34:40 Kate Burden

I don't know. I just. I was really young when I went.

00:34:42 Kate Burden

And I just.

00:34:44 Kate Burden

You know, I thought, I think it. I made a lot of.

00:34:47 Kate Burden

Good friends and and.

00:34:49 Kate Burden

All that, but I wouldn't. You know, I just like, tell and I was just like, well, you know.

00:34:52 Paul Bence

We're ready for it, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

00:34:58 Kate Burden

Didn't take you say if I?

00:34:59 Kate Burden

Went back now I'd be.

00:35:00 Kate Burden

Like making notes of like things and like like can you do that again? You know just like.

00:35:06 Kate Burden

I just wasn't.

00:35:09 Kate Burden

Engaged. Very well, you know.

00:35:12 Kate Burden

But you never are aged.

00:35:13 Paul Bence

And whoever nobody is, though I think it's a really we've got it like that in in the European countries, they go university much later like 2526. And I think it's it's.

00:35:21 Kate Burden

Think. Yeah, I don't think they should. It should be loud. I think should go.

00:35:25 Kate Burden

Out and work.

00:35:27 Paul Bence

Yeah, exactly. You know from from 12 down the mines.

00:35:27 Dan Higginson

And come back.

00:35:29 Dan Higginson

What you wanna do?

00:35:31 Kate Burden

Yeah. Yeah, it's on there, you know a.

00:35:35 Kate Burden

Bit of hard work.

00:35:35 Kate Burden

Never let anyone you know, I think that.

00:35:39 Kate Burden

And I didn't really know what I was. If I had anything to say either. Like I didn't know who I was really. And like what you know or what I thought about things or. And I think the just kind of like.

00:35:54 Kate Burden

Not making anything and then making it. It feels like it feels like ohh, why was I doing this ages ago? You know, I would have been made better or it just progressed, but I just think that it's just.

00:36:07 Kate Burden

Life and what happens and it.

00:36:09 Speaker 4

Yeah, but you.

00:36:09 Paul Bence

Had a good time as well, right? I think I I was listening to somebody else of this exact conversation. I think it was David O'Mara. He's an Irish. He makes books, handmade books and photographs. He painter and decorator. He's been on before, but I think he was saying the same thing. He was talking to a friend and that he was saying, you know, I picked up these ten years of my life.

00:36:29 Paul Bence

I wish I'd concentrated on my work when I was younger.

00:36:33 Paul Bence

But but then he said, yeah, but, you know, I know another artist who who basically did concentrate all through his youth. And he's miserable because he missed those 10 years of his life. I'm having a good time and I think there's both sides of that coin right there. You know, maybe in balance. But when you don't have balance of 18, do you like you just don't. It's just.

00:36:52 Paul Bence

If I don't.

00:36:53 Paul Bence

Write a 48 for God's sake.

00:36:56 Kate Burden

Yeah, I think that everything seems like, oh, God, yeah, it was like over 20 years ago. And that blows my mind. And just like, they're like time. And I'm just like, yeah, just it's nuts because I feel like, oh, no, no, now it's like.

00:37:06 Paul Bence

Yeah, it's just weird, isn't it?

00:37:14 Kate Burden

I'm ready, but I was like.

00:37:16 Kate Burden

What's she doing? So she's like, you know, she's like, you know.

00:37:17 Speaker 4

If not.

00:37:23 Kate Burden

I don't know whatever I'm doing it.

00:37:24 Dan Higginson

I don't think there's ever a right time.

00:37:25 Kate Burden

Is there? Well, I just think you should just.

00:37:28 Dan Higginson

Have such thing?

00:37:29 Paul Bence

You can do it when you feel right, right, I think.

00:37:31 Dan Higginson

Yeah, it it kind of finds.

00:37:31 Paul Bence

That's the I'm I'm.

00:37:32 Paul Bence

You. Yeah, it just comes out.

00:37:34 Paul Bence

Of you? Yeah, I.

00:37:35 Kate Burden

Don't think you can stop it with any. I think if you try to depress it, it's just going to come out.

00:37:37 Paul Bence

No, no, I agree.

00:37:45 Kate Burden

Whether you like it or not.

00:37:47 Paul Bence

Yeah, that's interesting.

00:37:48 Dan Higginson

I definitely agree. It's a funny thing. You going back to university as like a magician. It's like it's a bit strange.

00:37:56 Dan Higginson

There's lots of stuff that you look.

00:37:57 Kate Burden

There now.

00:37:57 Dan Higginson

At yeah, yeah.

00:37:59 Dan Higginson

In the university now it's 38.

00:38:02 Kate Burden

But you can just take it in and just kind of like.

00:38:06 Kate Burden

I don't know. Do you feel?

00:38:07 Kate Burden

A bit more relaxed.

00:38:09 Kate Burden

You don't know what, right?

00:38:10 Dan Higginson

Nobody else in my family ever went to university, so I don't really know what to think. I mean, Tanya went. She's a she's a teacher now. A lot like your behalf. I don't know. I I didn't really know what to expect. Do you know what I mean? Cause my my parents didn't go. None of my siblings went. I don't think any of my cousins went either. Like, I think I'm the 1st.

00:38:25 Kate Burden

Never mind, didn't you both?

00:38:29 Dan Higginson

Done and it took me 38 years to get there.

00:38:31 Dan Higginson

Do you know?

00:38:32 Dan Higginson

I mean it's.

00:38:33 Dan Higginson

Yeah, I I don't.

00:38:33 Paul Bence

You know, now he's like, you're like grandfather, you know, they told the kids on you, they all come up to the.

00:38:38 Speaker 4

Hey, can we have some sweet stuff? And he gets out his pockets.

00:38:45 Paul Bence

And he gives them word as originals.

00:38:46 Dan Higginson

But then also weights these kids, they're all on my wickets, you know.

00:38:50 Dan Higginson

What I mean?

00:38:53 Speaker 4

You show us how to use the camera.

00:38:55 Kate Burden

No, not yet.

00:38:56 Dan Higginson

Any of that, they're all just doing like nitrous oxide and stuff, aren't they? They're all crazy as.

00:39:00 Dan Higginson

Luck. And it's not, it's not like it was when we were kids. All that stabbing each other and stuff. It's weird now being a kid.

00:39:09 Kate Burden

I think that do you think that the kid that you got like time? Yeah.

00:39:16 Paul Bence

Yeah, it's a bit poor and they're all inside doing crosswords and fit. Yeah, you.

00:39:21 Kate Burden

Right, what?

00:39:24 Paul Bence

You don't drink. They don't drink. They don't do weed or anything. Like they're just really boring.

00:39:29 Dan Higginson

They were concerned about each other's feelings.

00:39:32 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah.

00:39:33 Kate Burden

What's that?

00:39:34 Dan Higginson

I don't know. I don't know. It's really bizarre. You get there, you know? Who are we gonna start bullying and like? They're not into it.

00:39:43 Paul Bence

You were the.

00:39:45 Speaker 4

Detective home.

00:39:50 Dan Higginson

Spliffy bomber jacket.

00:39:53 Paul Bence

And you've got nails. This has been funny. This one today made me laugh. Kate. Honestly. So what's the what does the future hold on this burden and why? What's the plans with your work, do you?

00:40:07 Paul Bence

Do you have a like I I'm interested to know like you say you want to maybe collaborate with other people, move into a a bigger space so.

00:40:14 Paul Bence

You can make.

00:40:15 Paul Bence

Big work, but do you think you think?

00:40:17 Paul Bence

Like the the.

00:40:18 Paul Bence

The work, because it's so like I've just I as I look through your stream, it's it just blows my mind how good it.

00:40:23 Paul Bence

Is Kate? Honestly, I really love it.

00:40:26 Kate Burden

Ohh thank you.

00:40:27 Paul Bence

I really do like even the that's like I I I try to college my college really badly, right? Dan will tell you and am I know how difficult it is just to cut something out in the patients you need to to to cut some of the things out that you you're cutting out and like it's a skill in itself isn't it? And then.

00:40:45 Paul Bence

Or you cut. I think the bet you get at it as well, right? It's like it's. But I find it really like really.

00:40:52 Paul Bence

Most hypnotic in a way. If does that make sense? Like you're in like a trance when.

00:40:56 Paul Bence

It's in something nothing.

00:40:57 Kate Burden

Like you think about anything else? But then I just think what we're doing, you know, like putting this really and took it rib cage or whatever it is just around this book. And I'm like, it's like, hey, just find.

00:41:11 Kate Burden

It and I'll put it.

00:41:12 Kate Burden

Out in my hands, like wobbling and stuff. And then and.

00:41:18 Kate Burden

Yeah. And you see, why aren't I doing this digitally? You know, just like I've got got a rib cage there. What I want. And then you can find anything you wanna put it together? And it's just like.

00:41:28 Kate Burden

Yes, I sometimes I always like have that in.

00:41:31 Kate Burden

My mind like what you know like.

00:41:33 Paul Bence

Yeah, but I think I think and this is the point, I think there's there's something in the process of of.

00:41:41 Paul Bence

The cutting and the finding. So the finding 1st and then cutting right. That skill of cutting a piece of paper into.

00:41:51 Paul Bence

It's it's a skill, it's.

00:41:51 Paul Bence

Well, it's a wheel and one, I think.

00:41:54 Paul Bence

You know, like again my my my collage knowledge is limited. But I will say something that it it is a real skill and it takes a real eye to combine things that work and you you you work does that really natural. I think you really really really love it. I like the girl in the barrel.

00:42:14 Paul Bence

You did with the octopus.

00:42:17 Kate Burden

So that it really works and it's.

00:42:19 Kate Burden

Right, that's ohh. That came together bit too easy and you're like ohh I'd easily out the tentacles but then you just like. But then if it works it works and then some stuff.

00:42:30 Paul Bence

What's what's more important to you? The process of cutting or the finished piece?

00:42:40 Kate Burden

That well, that's.

00:42:41 Kate Burden

The prize at the end, isn't it? The end?

00:42:44 Kate Burden

But like why?

00:42:44 Kate Burden

Are you doing it? It's like, yeah. You don't think about?

00:42:46 Kate Burden

Anything any problems? It's just like.

00:42:49 Kate Burden

Yeah, you mean it?

00:42:51 Paul Bence

Do you sell your work? Have you sold any?

00:42:53 Paul Bence

Of your work, do you? Do you have any have any?

00:42:56 Paul Bence

No, you should communicate this is this.

00:42:58

I'm trying to.

00:43:00 Kate Burden

Trying to do print there and then, but I think the that gets the colours gets lost in the print because it's like flattened or whatever but.

00:43:11 Dan Higginson

Oh, interesting.

00:43:13 Kate Burden

Yeah, it I.

00:43:16 Kate Burden

Yes, I did that for a bit, but I've tried to sell a few.

00:43:19 Kate Burden

Bits but it.

00:43:20 Dan Higginson

I was actually gonna ask you about Prince after.

00:43:22 Kate Burden

The thing just my friends, just my my sons bought. Then God love him. It was just all my mates and that's really nice, isn't it? You know when you? Yeah, they, they, they they they supported and they bought my stuff and.

00:43:32 Paul Bence

It's nice when your friends.

00:43:40 Kate Burden

But then I.

00:43:40 Kate Burden

Just think ohh to make women eat. It's a.

00:43:43 Kate Burden

Hassle, you know, like.

00:43:44 Paul Bence

It's a hard work, isn't it? It's a real it's another job, right? It's a full, full time job, basically just.

00:43:49 Kate Burden

And you have to.

00:43:50 Kate Burden

Like kind of like, relentlessly like. Well, you know, yeah. And I just think it takes away from the what I'm doing. So I'm just like left that so.

00:43:52 Paul Bence

Crashed, that's all.

00:43:59 Dan Higginson

We heard a a vicious rumour that you work in a cinema projectionist.

00:44:04 Kate Burden

Do I do for a long time?

00:44:10 Paul Bence

I've also seen a lot of films.

00:44:13 Kate Burden

I've seen the beginning and the ending and it just doesn't look right and you get a.

00:44:21 Kate Burden

Call and it's like what's happened.

00:44:23 Kate Burden

Do you like? But yeah, weirdly not.

00:44:27 Kate Burden

All of the films.

00:44:29 Kate Burden

Right.

00:44:29 Kate Burden

Which is really annoying because we used to be able to when a film came in.

00:44:34 Kate Burden

When it was all.

00:44:35 Kate Burden

35 Now we used to.

00:44:36 Kate Burden

Be able to like go in like.

00:44:36 Dan Higginson

Sit up there with a popcorn and just.

00:44:39 Kate Burden

Yeah, just walked the whole thing through to see if it was like.

00:44:43 Kate Burden

See how the print was, but now it's like there's still some stuff that comes in on 35. Well, but it's like quite sporadic and and most of this digital in the making is do other things like, you know sorting out someones glitching.

00:45:00 Speaker 4

You, you. You.

00:45:01 Paul Bence

Or something you work with the film as well, right?

00:45:04 Paul Bence

You've done stuff with film in your career as well, like 30 are you like 35 millimetre and all sorts of stuff I was when I was Googling you. When we doing the Cape Verdean search.

00:45:15 Paul Bence

I I let let me let me just read you something that artificial intelligence said about you. You ready for this?

00:45:20 Kate Burden

Ohh great.

00:45:23 Dan Higginson

Ohh this is.

00:45:24 Dan Higginson

A terrifying game, Paul.

00:45:26 Dan Higginson

We've never done this to anybody else. This is this is just the UK.

00:45:29 Paul Bence

Kate, this is just for you. This is this is your accurate ears.

00:45:33 Paul Bence

Hang on, I'm just opening app.

00:45:34 Dan Higginson

This is terrifying. Did you do this?

00:45:37 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah, I do. And everybody now it's great.

00:45:39 Dan Higginson

This is amazing.

00:45:42 Dan Higginson

You should do it on the Idle House podcast and see what it says about us.

00:45:45 Paul Bence

That being, just opening it up one second.

00:45:49 Dan Higginson

OK, while I'm waiting for Paul, what's the best movie of all time?

00:45:59 Kate Burden

You can't. You can't. You can't.

00:46:02 Dan Higginson

Yeah you can.

00:46:03 Paul Bence

Yeah. What's the one you like? What's 1 you like?

00:46:06 Paul Bence

Like you know.

00:46:06 Kate Burden

What recently I've revisited is the aliens.

00:46:10 Kate Burden

Oh, OK yeah, I've got a new list of.

00:46:12 Dan Higginson

When you've got.

00:46:16 Kate Burden

That you know.

00:46:18 Dan Higginson

Did you ever see the duelists?

00:46:20 Dan Higginson

The first Ridley Scott. Yeah, the first Ridley Scott movie.

00:46:20 Kate Burden

Did you?

00:46:24 Kate Burden

No, not seeing, not see, I'm like.

00:46:28 Dan Higginson

Well, I was just talking about this yesterday. It was.

00:46:28 Kate Burden

Has it got onto the list?

00:46:30 Dan Higginson

It's it's really good. Don't try and find the trailer, though, because there's, like, some really shonky, like pirate trailers that are up on the Internet that make the film look absolutely terrible. But watch the movie. It's really, really good. It's basically the story of.

00:46:46 Dan Higginson

Two guys that.

00:46:49 Dan Higginson

I think they're on opposite sides of the French Revolution, but it's like their whole life and every time they bump into each other, they end up having a jaw because it's from from back in the time where men used to try and kill each other just to sell an argument and and they they bump into each other a handful of times throughout their life. So you kind of see them get older.

00:46:57 Kate Burden

Right.

00:47:08 Dan Higginson

And it's it's brilliant. It's it's like a very clever way of telling a story, but the.

00:47:14 Dan Higginson

The thing that.

00:47:15 Dan Higginson

Everyone talks about with it is, it's got the people say it's got the best sulfites of any movie ever.

00:47:21 Dan Higginson

Because it's. If you really think about what a sword fight would be like in your life, it's like a really terrifying knife fight, right? And they that it looks brutal as ****.

00:47:32 Dan Higginson

It's it's not. It's not Pirates of the Caribbean. No, no, it's it's. It's two men afraid.

00:47:37 Paul Bence

For their life I like, OK, that's good.

00:47:42 Dan Higginson

No, it's it's not that it. It looks like it would feel.

00:47:48 Kate Burden

Seen in movies.

00:47:50 Paul Bence

Because like I like a good fight, OK where?

00:47:51 Paul Bence

Is this going?

00:47:53 Kate Burden

Yeah, but the fact listen to movies that don't get cut are like.

00:47:57 Kate Burden

The long.

00:47:59 Kate Burden

You know, right.

00:47:59 Paul Bence

Flowing almost like a ballet dance. Almost. It's like a dance, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, me too.

00:48:04 Kate Burden

And you just.

00:48:04 Kate Burden

Joking. Really. But it's like relentless as well, you know, and it's really like.

00:48:09 Kate Burden

Training hall and and.

00:48:10 Paul Bence

So so I was. I was I was. When when?

00:48:15 Paul Bence

A I did a tell me a little bit about keeping and they found me a photo of you from 2007 when you worked at the showroom work station in Sheffield.

00:48:25 Kate Burden

It's not the one that's on, it's still.

00:48:27 Kate Burden

On the website.

00:48:29 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:48:31 Paul Bence

Anyway, but I don't know how accurate this is and would you?

00:48:34 Dan Higginson

No, no, nobody listening can see this, but Kate has.

00:48:34 Paul Bence

Like me to read it to you.

00:48:36 Dan Higginson

Got a head?

00:48:36 Dan Higginson

In her hands right now.

00:48:37 Paul Bence

Kate Kate Woodham is a British artist who works in a variety of media, including film, sound, installation and photography. She's interested in exploring the relationship between technology and the body, and often uses the work to challenge and subvert traditional notions of beauty and representation.

00:48:57 Paul Bence

This is what it's all.

00:48:57 Dan Higginson

About you upload that Wikipedia right now, Paul.

00:49:03 Paul Bence

Burden's work is often characterised by the useless tongue.

00:49:06 Kate Burden

OK.

00:49:08 Paul Bence

By use of found materials and its exploration of unconventional techniques, she is a fearless experimenter and her.

00:49:15 Paul Bence

Work is always pushing.

00:49:16 Paul Bence

The boundaries of what's possible. She's one of the most interesting and the biggest artist working today.

00:49:23 Speaker 4

Yeah. And if you're, if you're.

00:49:25 Paul Bence

Having a bad day go and asking how to write about.

00:49:27 Paul Bence

I mean, you just been.

00:49:28 Kate Burden

Feeling great. You know I it starts.

00:49:32 Kate Burden

It must think well, Dave will work with you left me a hand over note. You know of what's going on, what needs to be done and stuff. So I've got into, like, into work. I saw this handover note and it was a story about like, you know, Bobby my cat and and this little guy. And I was reading it and it was really good.

00:49:52 Kate Burden

And I was like, I couldn't believe I was like Dave, this story is amazing. I thought he wrote it and he was like, yeah, you can thank AI.

00:49:59 Kate Burden

For that and I.

00:49:59 Kate Burden

Was like ohh, you know, been sucked in. I was. I was gutted. I was just like, oh, it's OK.

00:50:04 Dan Higginson

Did did the magic go immediately?

00:50:07 Kate Burden

Yeah, it went. Yeah. And I so I so.

00:50:08 Dan Higginson

This is exactly my experience of AI as well. Like the second you know.

00:50:12 Kate Burden

So stupid and I hated everything.

00:50:15 Paul Bence

Yeah. You you said when you stolen the ideas from people all over the world to make this story, that is, you think your friend has written for you and it's like this is amazing. It's so good. Like ah, yeah.

00:50:27 Kate Burden

Yeah. Am I with?

00:50:28 Dan Higginson

But the second you find out the Magic's gone right is because it doesn't have a soul. It's not. It feels more like a science experiment than a than a piece of art.

00:50:32 Kate Burden

And that's it.

00:50:35 Kate Burden

Yeah, it's just it's.

00:50:37 Kate Burden

Kind of empty and it feels you're leaving like.

00:50:40 Kate Burden

It it's like a.

00:50:41 Kate Burden

Yeah. You know, on a massive crash and.

00:50:44 Kate Burden

You just feel like.

00:50:45 Dan Higginson

Why do I want to read something? Nobody could be?

00:50:47 Dan Higginson

Bothered to write.

00:50:48 Dan Higginson

Yeah. Yeah, it's.

00:50:51 Kate Burden

It's bad. It needs to go, but it's not going.

00:50:54 Kate Burden

Is it no.

00:50:54 Paul Bence

It's gonna. It's gonna be it's gonna. It's gonna be every part of our lives, right? And our children's lives. And they probably won't even. It's just gonna. I don't. We can't even foresee the way that the that's the scary thing I think.

00:51:06 Kate Burden

It is scary it block it out.

00:51:09 Paul Bence

Just block it out. Yeah, ignore it, right?

00:51:11 Kate Burden

I mean it.

00:51:12 Paul Bence

Want to live with the no.

00:51:14 Dan Higginson

Yeah, this is.

00:51:16 Dan Higginson

There's a handful of Chinese students on my course, and one of them was telling me the other.

00:51:19 Dan Higginson

Day that there's.

00:51:21 Dan Higginson

But they might have just been ******* with me because it's quite easy to do. I'm pretty gullible. But they they told me that there's this, uh, like this face recognition software they have in China. And apparently it's literally called Skynet.

00:51:36 Paul Bence

They have it here now as well. So if like in if you go to football matches in Wales, South Wales Police have got this system where they scanning the crowd and then if you've got any criminal record whatsoever.

00:51:47 Paul Bence

They can.

00:51:47 Paul Bence

Just keep pull you out and you're in the back.

00:51:49 Paul Bence

Of the van son.

00:51:53 Paul Bence

It's scary, though. It's scary.

00:51:55 Paul Bence

Like and and you know I was. I was. It's the way that I think it's the micro implementations of of AI which is already in our lives and we use it for tiny things like maybe helping us to write or grammar and it's.

00:52:07 Paul Bence

It's because it's not a a massive jump, you know one minute where you know you just need to type in the next minute, there's a robot running down the road or helping your kid cross the road or this robot washing your dishes is the micro.

00:52:20 Paul Bence

Transgressions of AI into into our society that we've allowed it just to prevail until it gets to a point where it's like ****, we're not doing anything other than wiping our butts like it's like, you know it's it's it's, it's scary. It is so and and I don't like even talking about it it it it doesn't seem threatening or it doesn't seem.

00:52:40 Paul Bence

Like it's going to, but it is. It's going to alter all of our lives and such, and there will be other jobs and there will be other careers. But I think a large chunk of working class society will really struggle with.

00:52:53 Paul Bence

I don't know, 30 years is worrying. I I like. I worry for my children and my children's children like this. Weird. But you know, you don't know deal. You don't know how how dangerous this shirt is and and how we've just allowed it to take over everything that we do. And it will be every system. And we don't see it. So it's almost an invisible system.

00:53:13 Paul Bence

Because it it it's we're just like the the interface but yeah.

00:53:17 Kate Burden

It's it's, it's in there, isn't it? It's.

00:53:19 Kate Burden

It's like.

00:53:20 Kate Burden

It's it, it's happening, but.

00:53:20 Paul Bence

Don't forget about.

00:53:23 Kate Burden

Yeah, how can you stop? How can?

00:53:25 Kate Burden

You stop it.

00:53:25 Dan Higginson

Well, you're right, Kate. You don't need to worry about it because it says that you're the most interesting artist on.

00:53:30 Dan Higginson

The planet right now, yeah.

00:53:31 Paul Bence

You are hot started.

00:53:34 Speaker 4

May I?

00:53:34 Dan Higginson

You're you're going to be fine.

00:53:40 Paul Bence

I wonder The thing is you don't know, right? Like that's the point. Now you just don't know. Like, it's got to a point where it's it's it's.

00:53:49 Paul Bence

You know the the, you know, fake news and not the whole. That whole idea of what's like you all of a sudden these last few years you've seen fact checking and stuff on on news, right. And they they they verify and you know obviously.

00:54:04 Paul Bence

That that gives you some comfort in the the information that you will receive in is, but even that even that information like we we we're just there's so much of it coming at you from so many different and like how are you absorbing this stuff and then like you're creating like and just.

00:54:20 Dan Higginson

Yeah. Do you think that's what you're doing, Kate, do you think?

00:54:22 Dan Higginson

You're trying to make sense of the world.

00:54:23 Dan Higginson

With your colleges and your sculptures.

00:54:28 Kate Burden

Yeah. Yeah, I think so. But I think, but I I think a.

00:54:31 Kate Burden

Lot of it is.

00:54:33 Kate Burden

More like human interaction with like AI's.

00:54:38 Kate Burden

Annoying, but still human beings are annoying as well, so it's like I think.

00:54:43 Kate Burden

It's like it and.

00:54:45 Kate Burden

You know, reacting to that or like you know.

00:54:52 Paul Bence

The body.

00:54:54 Kate Burden

Like things like the mundane things or like, I don't know, maybe. Just like it's a little bit neurotic, like over thinking of things or like, I don't know, it's it's in there also like.

00:55:08 Kate Burden

It's it's kind of.

00:55:09 Kate Burden

Humorous, isn't it? It's kind of.

00:55:11 Kate Burden

Hope it is like.

00:55:13 Kate Burden

Like that, there's that side of.

00:55:14 Dan Higginson

I see it. I see it.

00:55:18 Kate Burden

It as well, so I think.

00:55:26 Paul Bence

We're losing.

00:55:26 Dan Higginson

Yeah, yeah, Kate, we're we're suffering a little bit over.

00:55:29 Dan Higginson

Here with with connection.

00:55:32 Dan Higginson

To help. Yeah, I'll tell you what. Let's let's have a chat quickly about our shouts, and then we'll we'll wrap up. I've already done my shout with Bobby Fingers. I think he's definitely my shout this.

00:55:45 Paul Bence

Yeah. OK. Bobby fingers. Nice.

00:55:47 Dan Higginson

I'm not going to bore everyone to death about it, cause I might just leave it in where it was right in the middle, but Paul, have you got ohk, OK? Just in case you.

00:55:54 Paul Bence

Kygo wives.

00:55:56 Paul Bence

Yeah. You're like you. Just to catch, you know.

00:55:58 Paul Bence

Completely off guard and tell them.

00:55:59 Dan Higginson

I I am, I am.

00:56:00 Paul Bence

OK, so every week we do a shout out at the end of the show whether you be.

00:56:03 Paul Bence

Saying like you got one, you got one.

00:56:08 Paul Bence

You get this.

00:56:09 Kate Burden

I've got an artist I really like and I think I think you two like him as well.

00:56:18 Paul Bence

I'm on the edge of my seat in the edge.

00:56:20 Paul Bence

Of my seats.

00:56:20 Dan Higginson

Google Earth.

00:56:27 Kate Burden

Something like this?

00:56:32 Dan Higginson

I I really wanted. Sorry, I'm. I'm gonna.

00:56:33 Kate Burden

Like show like vignette.

00:56:33 Dan Higginson

Cut you off, Kate.

00:56:35 Dan Higginson

Take I'm I'm really sorry to cut you off, but I really want whoever it is you're about to shout out to get the full benefit of all your kind words. And right now you are robot in.

00:56:44 Dan Higginson

Quite hard, you.

00:56:46 Paul Bence

Are like the you could you know what sounds much better when you sit there, go back a bit, go back.

00:56:48 Dan Higginson

Yeah, we're wearing wearing the dialogue laser.

00:56:56 Dan Higginson

This is this is balls fitting himself with a tinfoil.

00:56:58 Dan Higginson

Hat he's like if you just.

00:57:00 Paul Bence

When you when you sit there, I think maybe there's some interference. I don't know. Just try talking to me a minute.

00:57:08 Paul Bence

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe it is not that.

00:57:11 Dan Higginson

Yeah, I don't. I don't know. I I don't know if there was anything at all there. I think you're just you're just.

00:57:15 Dan Higginson

Connecting dots.

00:57:19 Dan Higginson

Let's give it a second. Let's pull if you go first and then maybe Kate's connection will catch up.

00:57:22 Paul Bence

OK, OK.

00:57:24 Paul Bence

OK, I'm going.

00:57:25 Paul Bence

That for a book and it's by a guy called Harry Marco Pulis.

00:57:31 Paul Bence

Poor loss and it seems.

00:57:33 Paul Bence

And he's just he's made scenes about the last 20 years, and it's just.

00:57:39 Paul Bence

Pictures from his scenes that he's made, but he's had such a prolific career and he's made such a varied.

00:57:46 Paul Bence

Amount of scenes it it just makes me feel like I'm inadequate, but it's great. It's really good. I really like it. I like.

00:57:54 Dan Higginson

So is it multiple publications all in one?

00:57:57 Paul Bence

Book. Yeah, exactly that exactly that, mate. And and all the ones he's made and some.

00:57:57 Dan Higginson

OK.

00:58:03 Paul Bence

Nice. Really good. I really like it.

00:58:04 Dan Higginson

There was lots.

00:58:05 Dan Higginson

Of portraiture and stuff phone number rightly, I think you told me about.

00:58:07 Paul Bence

Lots of.

00:58:07 Paul Bence

This the other day, right? Yeah, port. But it's a mixture, you know. He's he's a bit of a mundane family. There's some.

00:58:16 Paul Bence

Is that it has lots of growth, some graffiti. So we just heard this, I.

00:58:21 Paul Bence

Really was looking at.

00:58:21 Dan Higginson

Quite varied.

00:58:23 Paul Bence

And and and just the various forms he's used to make the scenes. Like he's not. You know, he's not using a print shop on online like blurb or something. He's actually had naked magazines. So there's quite a bit of that. It's got a bit of that DIY element to it, which makes me like it more. You know, it's got about handmade, something that you.

00:58:32 Dan Higginson

OK.

00:58:42 Paul Bence

You can feel, you know, and you appreciate.

00:58:45 Paul Bence

The the craft.

00:58:47 Dan Higginson

Bit more tactile. Nice.

00:58:47 Paul Bence

Good. It's. Yeah, tactile. It's good, Ari marcopoulos zooms.

00:58:55 Dan Higginson

Kate, over to you. Come on, Kate. Come on.

00:58:59 Kate Burden

If that ever weird.

00:59:00 Kate Burden

It's. Yeah, it's not. It's just called some construct.

00:59:04

No, no.

00:59:07 Dan Higginson

Could you, could you turn off?

00:59:09 Dan Higginson

Your video for a second. Let's see if this helps.

00:59:12 Paul Bence

Play your video again. Yeah. Try turn off your.

00:59:14 Paul Bence

Video again, Katie.

00:59:16 Dan Higginson

Give it a go, Kate. Let's see.

00:59:17 Kate Burden

Is that help a little bit?

00:59:17 Dan Higginson

How we get on?

00:59:19 Speaker 4

Thank you.

00:59:19 Paul Bence

Or maybe it has.

00:59:21 Kate Burden

There is.

00:59:23

They start out.

00:59:24 Kate Burden

00:59:28 Kate Burden

00:59:28 Paul Bence

We did sunken skunked, sunken ****. Yes. Well, awesome. OK, tell us about sunken skat kid.

00:59:36 Kate Burden

It's like it's like.

00:59:38 Kate Burden

It's like little vignettes and poultry, it's.

00:59:43 Kate Burden

All fun drone.

00:59:45 Kate Burden

And the tags. Amazing. And it just sucks you in and it's funny and took it out. It's like a visual feast for the eyes also.

00:59:56 Kate Burden

I really need all my things and it's doing it's genius.

01:00:03 Dan Higginson

How do we find? How do we find Frankenstein? Is it one word? Is it?

01:00:06 Dan Higginson

Multiple words like.

01:00:07 Kate Burden

It's just one word, it's S.

01:00:09 Kate Burden

UNKENSKATT. It's just, yeah.

01:00:17 Paul Bence

FUNKENSCATT.

01:00:24 Dan Higginson

I'm already I'm on. I'm.

01:00:26 Dan Higginson

On Franklin Scotts website OK.

01:00:26 Paul Bence

I was just helping. I was just helping you. Dyslexic.

01:00:28 Paul Bence

You don't.

01:00:29 Dan Higginson

Yeah. No, I'm there. I'm there.

01:00:32 Dan Higginson

01:01:06 Paul Bence

Out there, it's amazing.

01:01:08 Dan Higginson

It's really good where where can people keep up to date with your work on the Internet?

01:01:12 Kate Burden

And now we've not got anything on Instagram.

01:01:28 Dan Higginson

So your your Instagram is Kate underscore burden, right?

01:01:34 Dan Higginson

Wait, how many? How many?

01:01:36 Dan Higginson

01:01:42 Dan Higginson

01:02:12 Dan Higginson

It's fine, I think. I'm sure people can bear with it. It it wasn't that bad. Most of the way through there a couple of points were a little bit choppy and I'll I'll try and clean those up a little bit in the edit, but it's not a problem you can catch Paul at Paul Bentz UK, you can catch me at Dan, underscore S underscore Higginson.

01:02:32 Dan Higginson

But it's coming. It's coming. We got lots of things happening. We're gonna have the roadshow. Dan's going to basically get a ice cream van and drive around the country.

01:03:00 Paul Bence

Yeah, you know, I can't swipe them.

01:03:01 Dan Higginson

I'm out. I'm on day.

01:03:03 Dan Higginson

Place and arrive out of town near you in.

01:03:07 Dan Higginson

You know, I'm really. I'm really, really going down in an ice cream truck.

01:03:07 Paul Bence

Of the three raised three people.

01:03:11 Paul Bence

Yeah. Yeah, that's the plan. But you reckon?

01:03:13 Dan Higginson

Why? Why not?

01:03:14 Paul Bence

I just exactly so we can play music. I wanna play like, what? Sound what? What? What music. Shall we play out of our?

01:03:22 Paul Bence

Ice cream bar on the net.

01:03:23 Dan Higginson

Ohh, Slayer, rain and blood right?

01:03:29 Kate Burden

And he used to play that.

01:03:44 Paul Bence

It's the best.

01:03:46 Dan Higginson

I don't remember what my news today. I just remember getting really excited about.

01:03:50 Paul Bence

You, you you didn't have ice cream that time.

01:03:50

Ice cream.

01:03:52 Dan Higginson

What's your ice cream order?

01:03:56 Dan Higginson

Drake wave. Justified. Sorry. Did you say your?

01:03:59 Kate Burden

Did you sort of pop?

01:04:01 Dan Higginson

What? Sorry I popped up.

01:04:04 Kate Burden

Don't say sorry. What did you say then, Kate?

01:04:16 Dan Higginson

Fizzy pop.

01:04:18 Kate Burden

On the street.

01:04:19 Kate Burden

On the street. But did you?

01:04:20 Paul Bence

Yes, yes, yes. Glass bottles. And you used to give the bottles back and you used to get like pens for every bottle you would turn. Yeah, yeah, no. That's why I've got. That's why I've got bad teeth now. I've been good.

01:04:30 Dan Higginson

We didn't have any.

01:04:34 Dan Higginson

********. Yeah. We didn't have anything like that in in the shitholes living in.

01:04:40 Dan Higginson

Been royally ****** out of all the childhood experiences we didn't get, we just got mugged on the corner of the street. That was what happened.

01:04:41 Paul Bence

You'll be milked.

01:04:47 Paul Bence

You just ate. You just ate grass in the field, and then grandma came and looked you, that's what.

01:04:50 Dan Higginson

Listen, you were lucky if you got grass in the field when you were my age, but they weren't even fields. It was just barren concrete wasteland, yes.

01:04:59 Paul Bence

Sorry I I I got confused.

01:05:01 Paul Bence

About the warm grass.

01:05:02 Dan Higginson

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
